Yesterday was a tough day. A newborn at a public hospital in the colonias was born with a severe heart problem. There are no cardiologists in the hospital and the doctors said they doubt the baby could survive the seven-hour trip to Saltillo, the closest hospital that might be able to help. Brenda, our representative in Acuna, gathered the medical facts and contacted the person in charge of the border sector. We already built a good relationship with this director and she had already reviewed everything about Paper Houses.
“The baby has an aunt who is a U.S. citizen living in San Antonio. The aunt is willing to assume the charges of the hospital.”
The baby is now 4-days old and the parents were almost out of their minds with worry.
Because of the medical emergency with a baby’s life at stake and our reputation, Paper Houses were( able to secure permission for an emergency waiver. The baby was first taken to the hospital in Del Rio to be evaluated and stabilized for the 3-hour ambulance ride to San Antonio. The baby is now in San Antonio and the baby is fighting for life.
There are SO many frustrating things in the news. Most of these things, I can't do anything about. So when God drops something in our lap where we can actually DO something, well everybody better get out of our way. People like you, who trust us and encourage us make a huge difference!
So while people rant about rioting, protesting, police wrongdoing, unfair media reports, and COIVD-19, you were making it possible for a little newborn to fight for life. Thanks.
We are in touch with the family and the hospital and will update you when we have more information.
The baby is doing better, they are giving Adriel a strong antibiotic for an infection in his lungs and they did some test to see make certain it not turn into meningitis. He has opened his eye! The mother is staying with a family that lives near the hospital and they are helping her with food and transportation.
