The brothers are at the hospital in Monterrey for their scheduled evaluation.
Soon we will learn more details, such as any need for eyeglasses. Both boys are so happy!
Jorge, the younger of the two, was completely blind before the surgery. This Christmas he was fascinated by every thing he could see. The television was a lot of fun. Previously, he could only listen to the programs and now he is so excited to see the characters on the TV.
On November 28th, 2019, Erik and his brother Jorge returned home from the hospital in Monterrey after both boys finished their first eye surgeries. One eye of each boy was operated on and the operations were successful.
Jorge saw his mother's face for the first time in his life! He exclaimed, "Mommy, I can see you! You are beautiful".
Both boys will undergo operations on their remaining eye after the first of the year.
Bob and Brenda visited the boys, their mother and their little sister on the day after Thanksgiving.
Jorge and his brother Erik are now scheduled for surgery that will restore their sight!
Jorge Daniel and his brother Erik were born with a disease that causes blindness. We met the boys in 2019 and by this time, Jorge was completely blind and Erik was blind in one eye and the sight in his remaining eye is deteriorating.
We sent them to Doctor Molina, a specialist in Monterrey. Tests revealed that both boys are good candidates for surgery that will return their sight.
On October 24, 2019 a further study was conducted to determine the cost of the surgery and it is estimated to be $4,089. Each eye will be done separately. Food, lodging, and bus tickets for the four trips is estimated to be $1,320. This brings the total cost to be $5,409.
On November 21, 2019 the boys returned to Monterrey for a final exam. The date of the first surgery for each boy is set for November 27th.
On November 27th both Erik and his brother Jorge underwent successful surgery on one eye. They will receive surgery on their other eye very soon.
While both of the brothers were happy and excited, Jorge was especially joyful because for the first time in his live he could see. His mother told us several things that Jorge said to her.
On the bus to Monterrey, both boys were excited. She describes the scenery and as we entered Monterrey, Jorge said "Just think. When we leave the hospital I will be able to see the beautiful city of Monterrey!"
When the bandage was removed, Jorge looked around and then looked at his mother. "Mommy! I can see you! You are beautiful, Mommy."
On the return bus ride Jorge said, "Mommy! I can see the city of Monterrey! It is beautiful!"
On December 12th both Erik and his brother Jorge underwent surgery on their eyes and we anxiously await the doctor's report after the bandages are removed.
